City Hall in Belfast at Christmas, Northern Ireland

We’re approaching the start of December, the weather’s getting chilly and the scarf and gloves have been dug out of the cupboard. It can mean only one thing – Christmas market season is coming. I love a good Christmas market and will be sipping vin chaud at one in Paris later this month, but for now I’m revisiting my trip to Belfast. The Continental Christmas Market there is held outside City Hall and is full of the usual mix of food, drink and gift stalls. There’s a real multinational feel with stallholders coming from over 30 different countries – so you can get a crepe, bratwurst, springbok burger or paella to go along with your gluwein or mulled cider, and even pick up a ‘raindeer’ to take home with you.

  1. Ohhh, this post cracked me up!! 🙂 I'm so glad it ended well for you. 🙂 I remember being in Portugal and trying to get internet set up in our apartment with no English between us. Heavens! Somehow it worked out though. 🙂

  2. “some people just don’t seem to understand that when you ask for a shot of you in front of a major monument…you kind of want the monument!” – So damn true!

  3. I’m moving to Cardiff in September. I visited a couple months ago and fell in love. This was a great overview. The only thing I would add is to make sure you take the time to stroll through one of Cardiff’s many gorgeous parks and don’t forget to try a Welsh cake! There is a wonderful Welsh cake store tucked away in a corner of the new Cardiff Bay shopping area.
