It’s become an annual tradition to take a dip into the photo archives and see what gems I can uncover at the end of each year. I take a ridiculous amount of photos and they can’t all make it into a blog post, so this is a chance to share the ‘best of the rest’, with some of my favourite unpublished photos from the last 12 months (you can see the previous editions from 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 too). They stretch from the Cotswolds all the way to the west coast of Canada, starting off in Santorini and ending up in Seville just last week.
It’s the time of year to pour a mulled wine, settle down by the fire and look back at the last year’s travels – right before you start planning the next! 2015 has been a hectic year On the Luce, and it feels like I spent it zipping from place to place, never quite having enough time but getting a taster of some fantastic destinations I’d love to go back to (Canada, Copenhagen, Glasgow…). It was also my second year taking on the Take 12 Trips challenge – a pledge to make at least one trip every month, whether local or long-haul.
The year is almost over, so after looking back at 2014 it’s time to dig out the guidebooks, get excited and start making travel plans for 2015. Normally by the start of January I have a couple of flights booked and trips organised for the coming year, but this year I’m trying to reign in my planning impulses and leave a bit more room for spontaneity. Last year I’d never have predicted that I’d end up taking a Mediterranean cruise or spending a weekend in Sicily, so who knows where I might find myself next year?
