I know it’s a bit of a cliché, but I swear the years are going by faster and faster – didn’t I just publish my five-year anniversary post? But somehow six years have passed since I first put pen to paper (or rather fingers to keyboard) and started sharing my travel stories and photos On the Luce.
July means only one thing – birthday month! Mine was last week and this week it’s the blog’s turn. It’s five years and 400 posts since On the Luce was launched back in 2011, and it’s been quite an adventure along the way. As ever I want to say a massive thank you to everyone for reading and following along. I’m hugely lucky to have such a great group of readers and really appreciate all your comments, shares and messages. So here’s what the last year on the blog has been all about – and what’s coming up in year six.
July is a month for celebrations – with a family wedding and a series of birthdays in the last few weeks the prosecco supply is in danger of running low. And among the milestones is a big blogging one as On the Luce reaches its fourth birthday. Back in 2011 I was setting up my little WordPress.com blog and amazed when I actually started getting page views and comments. Four years later On the Luce has grown up a bit, but I still love exploring the world, photographing everything in sight and sharing my travel tips and stories with you.
It’s that time of year again – when I dig out the Champagne glasses and crack open the bubbly (any excuse) to celebrate both me and this blog reaching another birthday. The last three years On the Luce have seen 244 blog posts, 1451 photos, 19 countries covered and 7636 comments – phew! And this year has been the busiest and best for the blog so far – as well as doubling the number of monthly visitors since last year (welcome everyone!), it’s also opened up new opportunities for me, like the chance to work with some great travel companies and tourist boards to try out new destinations and even a totally new way to travel.
The last week has seen two birthdays as this blog reached its second anniversary and I well and truly entered my mid 30s! It’s been a great year ‘On the Luce’ and I want to thank all the new readers of the site that have come on board this year, as well as saying a special thank you to those that have stuck with me from the beginning. Your great comments keep me going whenever it all seems like hard work. Blogging has added so much to my life, not least a community of new friends and fellow travel obsessives who make me laugh, make me jealous and inspire me with new destinations for my wishlist every day.
This week is one for birthdays – I turned 34 last weekend, and On the Luce travel blog reaches its first anniversary tomorrow (and it’s also my mum’s birthday today so happy birthday mum!). It’s been quite a year, and I would never have though back last July when I sent my first post out into the world without a clue what I was doing, that a) I’d still be doing it a year on, b) I’d be enjoying it so much, and c) that so many of you would actually be reading it! So thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read, comment and support me over the first year, here on the blog as well as on Twitter and Facebook.
